All Falcons up to January 1971 had a dual numbering system, consisting of both the Body Prefix Number and VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). The VIN was stamped on the passenger side support panel, and this should match the number stamped on the I.D. plate (which was attached to the drivers side pre January 1970, and on the bulkhead for the remainder of 1970). As of January 1971 Ford switched to using a 3 way identification system, the body prefix and serial number as located on the ID plate should be the same as on the engine and shock tower.
The body prefix number should be 6 characters in length, consisting of 2 letters, then 2 numbers, followed by another 2 letters.
Letter 1:
The first letter in the body prefix identifies the country, with "J" identifying Australia
Letter 2:
The next letter in the body prefix identifies the assembly plant, with "G" identifying Broadmeadows
Numbers 3 and 4:
The following 2 numbers identify the model
